4 Changes You Need To Make To Your Skincare Routine This Summer

With summer comes longer days, warmer weather, and unfortunately, a few extra skin care concerns. From protecting your skin from sun damage to keeping it hydrated in the heat, you may need to make a few adjustments to your current skincare routine.

Here are the 4 changes you need to make to your skincare routine this summer:

  1. Get some steam
  2. Use a light, oil-free moisturizer
  3. Wear SPF every day
  4. Don’t forget your lips!

Get Some Steam

Humidifiers are great for skin health in any climate, but they are especially beneficial in the summer months. Too much humidity in the air can cause breakouts, and not enough humidity can worsen dry skin symptoms, so making sure the air around you is at an ideal moisture level is key in keeping your skin looking and feeling its best.

A humidifier is an inexpensive and easy-to-use device that puts moisture back into the air. Many humidifiers come with adjustable settings, so you can find the perfect level of humidity for your space.

Humidifiers also have a number of other benefits: they help to relieve dry eyes, ease pet allergies, and even improve sleep quality. By adding a humidifier to your skin care routine, you can help promote healthier skin and keep your summer skincare routine on track.

If you don’t have access to a humidifier, make sure you’re incorporating steam into your body and skincare routine! I sometimes hold my morning matcha near my face to achieve the same results…

Use A Lighter Moisturizer

If your skin is feeling extra parched during the summer months, it’s time to switch up your moisturizer. During the warmer, more humid summer months, your skin may not need the heavy, creamy moisturizers that you used during the winter months.

Instead, opt for a lighter moisturizer. Lightweight moisturizers are formulated with lightweight ingredients that provide ample hydration without feeling heavy or greasy. These are designed to be absorbed quickly and provide a long-lasting layer of protection from the sun and heat.

Look for a moisturizer that is specifically targeted towards your skin type, or  moisturising for any skin type like our Whipped Shea butter. If you’re feeling extra dry or your skin is prone to sensitivities, opt for a moisturizer that is gentle and has anti-inflammatory ingredients.

Our Shea balm is perfect for sealing in moisture in a light natural formula!

Protect Your Skin With Sunscreen

The sun's harmful UV rays are the biggest cause of premature aging and skin damage. To ensure your skin is as healthy and youthful as possible, it's important to protect your skin with sunscreen all year round, not just in the summer months.

When choosing a sunscreen, make sure you select one that offers broad-spectrum protection. This means it blocks both UVA and UVB rays. The SPF (sun protection factor) value should also be 30 or higher.

Apply sunscreen directly on the skin, approximately 15-30 minutes before stepping outside. Reapply every two hours or more frequently if you are sweating or swimming.

You can also use sunscreen for more than just your face. Be sure to apply a generous amount of sunscreen to your ears, neck, hands, and any other exposed areas of skin. Remember to also reapply if you spend extended periods outside.

Don’t forget about your lips!

Don’t forget to give your lips a little extra love this summer. You can use sunscreen specifically formulated for the lips, which will protect them from the sun but also nourish them with much-needed hydration. An SPF of 30 is best.

If you’re heading outdoors, you should be sure to reapply your lip balm every 2-3 hours to ensure your lips stay protected. When you’re done applying your lip balm, again - Shea Balm!

If your skin isn’t looking how it used to, maybe it’s time to switch things up!
